:: The Hon Mun MPA encompasses marine waters
around Hon Mun and surrounding islands in
Nha Trang Bay. This area has rich biodiversity
and fishery resources. The area is popular
with tourists and is vitally important for
fishing industry. A project to develop the
Hon Mun MPA site is supported by the Government
of Viet Nam, World Conservation Union, Global
Environment Facility, World Bank and the Danish
International Development Agency.
:: Named Hon Mun because on the South East
of the Island it has high cliffs with dangerous
waters forming caves and grottoes, its stones
are as black as ebony, which are rarely be
found in other areas.
:: Every year the black-stone caves of Hon
Mun attract flocks of Yen birds that migrate
to the area to build their nests. The island's
location adjacent to the warm sea-currents
from the equator which provide suitable conditions
for corals and various types of tropical sea
creatures. The sea bed of Hon Mun is home
to an abundant and diverse array of marine
species. Hon Mun is an interesting and useful
place for researchers, oceanographers and
tourists to observe, explore and study the
ocean and the creatures that live in it.
